Am coming down tanami track in late july, as
well as several national park roads in wa. Any suggestions re most suitable tyres. My experience of tanami is 30 years ago living at
yuendumu when it was covered in big sharp gibbers!
Thoughts re tyres appreciated.

It all depends on the conditions, which can range from just graded to mud if it rains on the way down. Suggest you have an AT type tread, with LT construction, if available in the Forester size.

We did the Tanami GRR and Bungle Bungles last year about the same time in a Mazds CX5 so very similar to what you are driving but not nrcesssrily as good in terms of 4WD capability
Changed the 19" Mag wheels with Toyo 226 55 R19 to Cooper AT LT AT3 235 65 R17 with steel wheel this gave us an additional 10mm height approx.
All went
well with no problems. Adjusted tyre pressure to suit.
You should have no problems depending on the amount of water on the road. We had sum parts under wster but generally not too bad

You will find that you are limited about what you can put on and a LT tyre won't have the speed rating required for the Forester.
I have Geolander A/T-S on my 2010 Forester and I am fairly happy with them and some other club members have BFG AT T/A.

I ran Dueller 697 LTs on my SG Forester that were a tad taller than standard. Don't recall the speed rating was a problem with those. Certainly over three or so outback trips they never gave any trouble.
We did a number of the standard desert tracks when classed as 4WD only, after rain. There was some ruts and ponded water. No hassle apart from getting stuck once, and we were towing a light CT.
We had the SubaXtreme sump guard fitted. The original plakky unit was on par with wet cardboard.

Ran bridgestones LT's on my forester. Noiser than HT's but not too bad.No punctures and transformed the stability on gravel. Lots of hard driving under all conditions, sand, gravel, stone, mud. Wore
well with no chipping.
Highly recommended.
