We have just completed the run down the
Gary Junction Rd. Anyone looking for a short cut from
Alice Springs the
Pilbara this is a great track to take. The road was in good condition allowing speeds of 80-90kph in most sections. Diesel was $250lt at Kiwikurra and $340lt at
Kunawarritji. The road conditions at the time would be suitable for off highway caravans. great camping at Jupiter
Bore.

I did it in August 2016, towing a 3t van from West to East, was the highlight of my trip.
Fuel was $3.50lt at
Kunawarritji when I came across. I knew I had to refuel there and it was going to hurt, but still had a little cry when it happened. :)
Loved Jupiter
Well, stayed there 3 days.

places. I just don't need pin stripes on the 4wd.

It's a major outback road Al. You will get some dust on the beloved 4by though but the good news is that you'll get it in three colours, white, pink and red!

Hi Al. As Mick said its a major dirt highway, light corrugations in
places but it is in good condition at the moment. the "locals" drive Commodores on it without any problems. Take your time and it is all good.

There's some beaut scenery on it. Much more interesting than the Tanami.
The quartzite mountains on the NT side rising steeply up to 800m from the plains. The sand ridges of the Gibson with gums on the top but not in the swales (leaving you wondering why).

Much more scenic and a lot less corrugated than the Great Central or Tanami Roads. Anyone contemplating this as an option between Western Australia and the Northern Territory, in addition to Len and Rhonda's recommendation,
check out My
Blogs, and follow links for photos of the various parts of the route, and where to get fuel. Getting the permit for the WA side is not as easy as for the NT side or for the Great Central, so allow plenty of processing time. Hard if you are touring to be a specific on dates as the DAA in WA requires.
