Mandatory community visit while traveling Sandy Blight Road?

I was just browsing through the permit information on this page:

And I came across this statement regarding the Sandy Blight Road: "Travellers on the
Sandy Blight Junction Road must travel via Tjukurla Community where food, fuel and general supplies available at the Tjukurla Community Store."
No word if a mandatory minimum purchase is enforced. :) But seriously, has anyone been on the SB recently? Did you stop there, or does that seem to actually be enforced?
Judging by the map linked on that page, the visit may be unavoidable, as they show the route detouring over to the community, then back over to the actual SB.

I read that as you must travel the road via the community and that there are
services available there. I'm not aware that anybody can force you to purchase from a store anywhere.

We did SB track N-S in early July ‘18, Candace, and didn’t call into the community, nor did we see any signs saying we HAD to visit.
Coming from the south, it would be easy to get diverted into the community, as the access road, about 6 lanes wide, turns to NE off the very narrow SB track.

Be interesting what impact this will have on Warakurna as both communities are within spitting distance of each other. Look on the
bright side, it gives you the opportunity to visit a community which is usually out of bounds to the general tourist.

Extremely clean and tidy store, not as big as Docker River, good takeaway food. Diesel was around $2 A litre. There is no community around this store...
Warburton gives you a bit Of an insight and the Docker River store is in the middle of the Community.

Are you saying the store is some distance from the rest of the community? I'm having trouble getting EO
places or maps to load. On Google Maps, the store is shown as being where the rest of the buildings are.

Tjukurla Store is within Tjukurla Community. Perhaps Gerard S was referring to the
Warakurna Roadhouse (which is some distance from Warakurna Community).

I have travelled that road a number of times and have never visited the community or store. Its 30kms off the north-south road.
I would ignore that request.

My take on this, having travelled the Gt Central Road is more along the lines that you stay on the road and don't divert.
On the GCR they are fairly insistent that you don't do side trips. Nobody can force you to buy anything you don't want to buy.
Enjoy the trip.

…..but if you get the chance, make a detour. Many of the aboriginal communities are a delight to visit, helpful friendly adults and delightfully curious kids. If you get an opportunity to visit one of the schools do so, and you'll appreciate the opportunity to interact.

We visited the community in 2003 when it was closed to visitors.
I recall that it was very tidy with very friendly people. I don't recall visiting the store.

I would believe that the expression of "must" is intended as "Oh, it's very good, you must not miss it" rather than as an authoritative direction to visit.
There is no requirement to deviate through Tjukurla community, although you may find it of interest. Anyone visiting the community should of course observe good manners and cultural respect.

I see your point, regarding the use of the word "must."
However, a similar statement on that page with regards to Tjirrkarli uses rather different wording: "Travellers on the
Heather Highway are welcome to visit Tjirrkarli Community for the purposes of visiting the store."
Thus, I interpreted the statement regarding Tjukurla as being somewhat more directive than suggestive. :) Plus, there's the matter of the map showing the route going through the community.

I see that statement as an invitation to go into the community as most communities are closed for various reasons and entry is via invitation only.
