Ctek D250s error on solar

I seem to have a problem with my rooftop solar panel. The ctek works fine whilst driving and also when I plug in my mobile solar panel but shortly after I connect the rooftop solar the charger gives an error code.

Any clues as to what is going on?

Thanks in advance. Ken

What error code?

Is the panel a new panel? Does it have an open circuit voltage more than the ctek can tolerate? Is the polarity correct from panel to Ctek solar input? Are you connecting both panels at the same time? If so, maybe the total solar input wattage is greater than the ctek max input wattage?

The error code indicated is - explanation : high temperature detected at either unit or service battery. The recommended fix - relocate unit or service battery.

The system has been running fine for 3 years and still has no problem with either car charging or auxiliary panel charging or both. Only when the rooftop panel is connected. Can the panel develop at fault that could cause this?

If you have the temp sender hooked up to the service battery, try disconnecting it briefly to see if the fault disappears. Monitor the battery temp with your hand while you do this just to be safe

Today I removed the temp sensor of the battery and reconnected the rooftop solar and within a minute the display went from normal input to error.
I once again connected car and auxillary and it works fine. Driving me crazy.

Common problem, do a search on the forum, from memory it is to do with insufficient solar input. Appears the ctek has a minimum inputbthat is much higher than other controllers.

If that is the problem, then if the panel is the one which has been used successfully in the past, it would point to it being a problem with cable or connections or high resistance not passing sufficient current / voltage under load to the Ctek.

Considering it works perfectly with other panels, Id say it is an issue with your rooftop panels and there is nothing wrong with the ctek.
Have you checked the open circuit voltage of the rooftop panels? They may have simply failed - it happens.

I don't have the specs. for the panel. Just checked open circuit value @ 21.2v

Therefore, at the end of the wires which go to the dc unit, you should have approximately the same open circuit voltage, and if you place a multimeter on AMPS setting, providing the panel isn't more than 10 amps Pmax current, directly across the terminals of the solar wire, the full ampere delivery of the solar panel to the plug or wires at the DC unit should be a reasonable amount. Never is it what the panel says though.
That way, you know panel voltage is present at the dc unit and amps available for use too. If OK, then the DC unit becomes in question. First things first.

I would like to thank you all for your efforts, much appreciated. After many disconnects and reconnectons of the various pieces it seems to have come good, no error light anymore. The battery seems to be charging correctly.

Thanks again
