Hello,

I have been seeking a form that can be given to a ranger or police when they request you move on when resting on the side of the road. I have seen one many years ago. The form from the motorhome association or other body, that state that you are tired or have been drinking alcohol and that it is unsafe for you to drive. You normally ask the official to complete their details and sign.

I have not been able to find this form so if someone has a copy or knows where to find it could you please help.

Regards Michael

Why would you need a form to have someone sign that said you cant move on because you were under the influence of alcohol? You,d have to be a bloody idiot to behave like that in the first place. The form would not be legal anyway. No ranger is going to sign it for a start. Resting on the side of a road? If you cant pull off to a safe place you shouldnt be driving at all. You dont suddenly get tired..it takes a few hours at least..plenty of time to plan a stop. Sounds like lack of responsibility on the drivers behalf and looking to have someone take responsibility for your short comings.

That form sounds like something some bush lawyer made up - the types who claim the nations laws don't apply to them, because the Constitution is invalid.

Good luck with finding one, and good luck getting any person in authority to sign it!

Cheers, Ron.

It's unfortunate, but quite a lot of people don't know the difference between a "Rest Area" & a "Camping Area" Then there are those that believe they are special & entitled to camp at the rate/tax payers cost where ever they wish. Do hope this does not apply to OP.

As one of the 4 chief rangers in Kakadu, my ranger card that allows me to enforce the EPBC Act and it's Regs will trump your so called form.

Having said that. If you were parked on the side of the road having a cuppa and scone just taking a break, probably wouldn't even stop. However, if you were setting up camp between the hours of 6am and 6 pm on the side of the road, I would be moving you on to a propper camp ground, if you were intoxicated, I would be notifing the police.

Have a great trip and do the right thing.

Regards

Most of the people that this would effect are parked up safe and sound between 6am and 6pm, therefore if you are setting up at 4pm on the side of the road and say you are tired wont cut it. In Kakadu, I can't think of a camp ground that is further that 50kms from the next one. So if you can't drive 50kms to the next camp ground then you probably shouldn't be driving in the first place. And yes, there are plenty of people that try and free camp.

My original point was, that form wouldn't be worth the paper it's writen on.

Another answer to your question, between 6pm and 6am, Im at home having a life.

Regards

If you are sleeping in your vehicle because you are pissed, the coppers can knock you off for being in charge of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. In the old days if you had too much at the pub you would sleep it off in your vehicle in the pub parking area, but first throw the keys away, because you couldn't be legally charged with being in charge of the vehicle if you weren't in possession of the keys. I wouldn't want to test that loophole today. Also don't forget while 'on the side of the road' or on the verge, insofar as the law is concerned you are still legally 'on the road'.

Sounds like 'someone' got busted camping where they should not ......like the caravans parked up in Truck rest areas , I personally think the rego and description should be passed onto the nearest police and fines issued ,

Are you an 18 yr old kid or something it's unbelievable the B.S some self centered people are willing to try. Do the right thing don't stuff it up for the rest of us who don't find it difficult if your tired pull up safely for a rest or nap then move on. If your roadside camping do it safely out of the way in the correct areas. If you feel the need to drink stay off the road all these can be done without your lame form no wonder the countries going to s#it.

Also not sure how your going to fill the form out if your drinking and besides that it sounds like you may need help just putting it out there if drinking is that important to you.

I usually don't but a clear and honest explination for the forms need may have changed mine and other replies as it seems dodgy at best not just in my eyes.

I don't think that form is available any more.

There is a new version. stating that you are tired, have been drinking, taking crack and doing terrorism and family abuse.

It's much more effective. Make sure you get the cops to sign it before they drive away too.

From the way I look at it, Ranger Steve is just doing what he is paid for. The amount of people in Kakadu who try to circumvent the park rules would be many and he would had heard all the excuses before.

Many would just crap where they are and leave rubbish, if they have paid for a campsite all that can be controlled. It is a huge area to look after and keeping it as pristine as possible would be a big job.

I think that if you were in trouble in the park, Mr. Steve from Kakadu would be the first to offer you assistance.
