I used to give ours a thorough hosing then a clean soft broom and water (maybe a caravan wash broom that attaches to a hose). No detergent or other chemicals.

Be prepared that some stains simply will not come out.
The red Australian centre dust is hard to clean, and the Pilbara red will not come out.

Brush it off as much as possible. If you try and wash it the water impregnates the dust into the canvas. Wash after brushing it. I have never been able to get rid of all the red dirt.

Red iron oxide dust of Oz, wear as a badge of honour :-)

There is very little you can do without damaging the integrity of the canvas.

Cheers.

I agree with Mick there is very little you can, or should do.
I have only ever made sure if it gets wet that it is properly dried out. And if dirty a brushing down occasionally. The canvas on your camper is to keep the bad weather out and keep you cosy, how it looks is not really important.

Seeing canvas does breathe, is porous, you could gently try passing compressed air from inside to outside, so the airflow carries dirt particles off the surface which they entered. Trial and error with the pressure. Unfortunately to clean an area it will take considerable time. No guarantees though.

I used a gerni on a canvas cover I had on my ute it ended up all streaky and probably not as waterproof now but it came up pretty clean. I was cleaning it before I put it in the shed and haven't used it again because I have an alloy canopy on the ute. So probably wouldn't recommend this method haha.

I have found "Ooomph" Citrus Oil cleaner to be fairly effective in cleaning off red dust stains.

But you need to use a scrubbing brush with it, and then pressure-clean it.

"Gumption" cleaner and a scrubbing brush can also be effective, but be aware Gumption has poly beads in it for a mild abrasive effect.

Gumption and a scrubbing brush works really good on getting rid of iron ore stain on tyre sidewalls.

Cheers, Ron.

Frank - Yes, Oomph works very satisfactorily on textiles, if you read through the reviews, people use it to get stains out of shirts.

If you're really worried about Oomph damaging your canvas, try some on an inconspicuous area first - or spray the canvas with water before you spray on the Oomph - or you can dilute the Oomph with some water in a spray bottle.

As I said, Gumption has poly beads in it for abrasion, so don't go overboard with the scrubbing.
