I have been reading our old travel diaries.
In July 1998 the Heathlands
Ranger told us that in the 5 weeks the track had been open a total of 900 vehicles had gone north.
A road counter was used to arrive at that number.
I seem to recall an article saying something like 300 per day are heading up this year.
Someone may have a more accurate count.

Hmmm, a vehicle every 30 seconds headed north leaving during daylight hours and one would assume the same returning on the same track, sounds like a relaxing drive.

30 seconds per car.?? Dont know how you got that figure. 11 hours of daylight up here at the moment. Thats about 27 cars per hour...not many. I certainly believe that 300 would be a reasonable figure. The highways and roads around
Cairns are chockers with campers/vans and 4wd,s.

In the late 80's when I first ventured up the Cape, there were approximately 3000 people a season, a count in 2017, had it at 45,000 vehicles, simple maths puts that at 90,000 people allowing for only 2 people per vehicle.
