Whilst taking a trip to Bendigo on Christmas eve, we experienced substantial power loss and huge amounts of smoke. Once the vehicel gets to a comfortable cruising speed I find that it no longer smokes, however if you want to kick back to over take the top speed is lucky to exceed 100, and you cannot see the cars in behind you?

If I use the Auto, in manual mode I find that I do not exerience the same smoke emmission.

BTW the vehicle was driving as smoothly as could be expected the day before, I had filled up with Diesel two days prior, at the usual Caltex station on Doncaster Rd in Melbourne??

Nissan have had the car in the shop since Wednesday morning, running all soughts to test, all coming back within an exceptable range (They tell me). Unfortunately Nissan Australia does not have any mechanical support staff around (over the Christmas period) to assist the dealers until next week.

All thoughts appreciated.

00 Nissan Patrol,

I had the same experience December 9th 2002.
Nissan replaced the Air Flow Meter. No fix.
Then the EGR valve. No fix.
Then the ECU. No fix.
Finally it was a broken wire in the loom to the turbo.
Took them until January 30th to fix the problem. Nearly 8 weeks.

It was terribly embarrassing with the amount of black smoke from the vehicle.
If you have an email address I can send you my documented dealings with Nissan.

Geoff,

Thank you for your reply, I had a call from Nissan yesterday, the mechanic that called, said it is some plate that has fallen in front of the inlet valve to the turbo.

He was very vague.....

If you have some information that you are happy to send, then please do, and thank you for your reply.

typical holes in piston #hitbox 3.0 GU.

This could only be a troll, since any sane person would have searched the archives and made 12000000000 hits....

What a surprise , Mr Doomandgloom himself has popped up again , do you just exist to bag the 3lt Patrol TRuckster or do you have some other hobby , had mine since new , done over 150000ks from one end ,across and back again over all sorts of roads , guess what , minor problems that you would expect with the places we have been and the distances and conditions we have encountered.. Get a life mate , maybe you had a lemon , get over it and have some quality input..and dont even bother to have a comeback , not interested
