On page 24 of Queensland Courier Mail there is a small article but its unclear what camping area they are trying to close.

It reads "Inskip Point activists have called for a Statewide campaign to preserve a campsite outside Gympie. More than 100 campers gathered on Friday to protect against State Government moves to ban dogs and campfires in the popular area. 'We used to go camping at Noosa Woods, but the people in the units turned up their noses at the campers and we got bounced out' said Reg Lawler. Gympie Nationals MP David Gibson said the Government wanted to cut camper number in the rea or ban them completely."

That would be a real shame as there are not many places near the beach you can camp with dogs anymore. I did a nearly 3 hour roundtrip yesterday just to go to Southport spit for the day with my two.

Does anyone know exactly where they are talking of closing as I am sure people in our 4wd club would be interested to know if I can provide more info.

Hi,

No I think Inskip is safe or as safe as anywhere is these days, but you may hear from someone elae here who knows the current situation better than I do.

One local area under a lot of pressure is the Noosa North Shore. I believe this area has been under a lot of debate in recent years and they have been talking about what sort of development will be happening there etc. I know one of their discussion points was to close the first couple of beach access tracks and make vehicles use the number three track to get on and off the beach.

Pretty sensitive issue from what I can see and it will be interesting to see what happens in the future.

Have a good one.

Brian have a read of this Great Sandy Region Management Plan

I haven't read it in a while but from memory they propose to close the beach between the first and third cutting. Then they plan to build an access road to the nothern bank of the Noosa River which will then enable them to close beach 4wd access south of the third cutting.
I think it also talks about closing all 4wd beach access from Rainbow township to Inskip.

There is more in there plus Fraser stuff.

This has been on the cards since 1994.

I was at Freshwater for the past week but didn't hear anything about closing Inskip. However getting rid of camp fires and dogs wouldn't surprise me.

Utemat, was the department of road transport there doing vehicle checks?

We had a warning that they were about and left the beach at Rainbow.

Just wondering.

Never saw any Dept of Transport guys but the police were showing their presence as were the QPWS Rangers.

I was told by a local businessman than there were riot type trained police in the area due to what happened last New Years at Inskip.
