Because I have a slide on camper and a 5.5 m boat, I prefer a campsite where I can launch the boat and leave the boat in the water safely near my campsite for the duration of my stay. Sites where I have found this facility offered include the North Arm Caravan Park (Lakes Entrance), Mallacoota Camp Park, and Corringle Slips Campground (Marlo). If anyone can suggest similar sites in coastal areas in other regions of Australia, it would be greatly appreciated.

Ken,

The Van Park at Nicholson (West of Lakes Entrance) is right on the River with a small "wharf".

You'd also probably get away with camping in the Car Park at The Swan Reach Bridge/Ramp. A lot of larger boats tie up to the Jetty there to stop overnight. Or perhaps try to drive along the banks for a few hundred metres. Swan Reach is about 15 km before Nicholson heading west on the banks of The Tambo River.

The Van Park at Hollands Landing is very close to the water, with almost nothing else around. I reckon the boat would be pretty safe.

Isn't that spot at Corringle something special?

Cheers,

Jim.

Also forgot Lake Wonboyne south of Merimbula.

Haven't been there myself but have a mate who swears by it and reckons the fishing is outstanding.

Tuross Lakes, NSW South Coast. Port Stephens, NSW. Wallagaruah River at the top of the Mallacoota Inlet.

Warrell Creek, an arm of the Nambuccca River, NSW.

Swansea Gardens Caravan Park, just south of Newcastle.
Farqhar Inlet, opposite Old Bar, Taree, NSW.

South Creek, South West Rocks.

Stuarts Point Caravan Park, absolute water frontage on an arm of the Macleay River, NSW.

Then there are the inland impoundments still to be exp[lored/fished.

Willie,

You are correct! Lake Lyle has been stocked. If you can get a damned trout out of there you are a better fisher than I.

I have:

Cast lures until the surface was thrashed to foam.

Trolled untill I wore a groove in the lake surface.

Never had a fish out of that damned impoundment over a period of near twenty years.

My brother-in-law went up there, staggered down the boat ramp, hurls out a "Jensen Interceptor" and nails a 4'5kg brown. To add insult to injury he and his mate regularly pull good fish. To totally humiliate me my son has proved me wrong.

A lot of injustice in this world.

Ian it is a great fishery in the autumn months april to june is brilliant. We use the sounder to locate fish then anchor up and fly fish using sinking lines and brain them. Last April got 11 in 4 hours up to 2 kg. Bit dissapionted as I didnt get any big browns last autumn. We normally do better then the trollers. Send me a mm if you want more info.
Wife once hooked a monster out of a float tube, damm thing looked bigger then her. After 20 mins the fly pulled out. I reckon it was 6kg plus.
They do taste like crxp so we release most of them

Ian,

When I fished there I could get nothing on a fly, but Pete sounds like he has the place wired.

I remember down near the wall, I caught one on a mudeye and cut it open to see what it had been feeding on. It had a few gudgeon in there - that's what they looked like to me. I got the freshest looking, just eaten one, hooked it through the jaw and flicked it in. Within a minute I had another fish.

I got excited and went home and painted some Raphala lures in the local gudgeon colour scheme, but alas, never got back to try them out.

Cheers,

Willie

Thats it Willie , 99% of their food is coxs gudgeons, we only use tom jones and wooly buggars. A few of the Dry fly chaps waste a lot of time chasing mostly small fish. They do not get to 15lb or so eating small insects. I personally prefer wallace as it has excellent mudeye hatchs which the big browns come in for.

Back in the seventies we use to throw the camping gear into the boat and disappear for a week or so. Nether even though of the car being vandalised. Mainly on Eucebene, Wyangala or Burrandong.
