Hi To all fellow Caravanners!!!
We have a 21 foot Newlands van with 3 bunks. I have been trying to work out how to make one of the bunk beds into a safe place for the baby (8 months). We have been away once with him but he was not moving so we put him on the middle bunk with a saftey net and that worked, but now, he is mobile and stands up. Have been arguing with my husband over the safest and easiest options (still gets up at night for feeds). I feel we would not be the first people to travel in a caravan with a baby so has anyone got any ideas or trialled anything that works
well. The van does not fit a port a cot!!!
Please help...any suggestions would be great!

Gday...
We used to travel with our son from when he was 8 months old.
What I did was built a "cot-side" to fit the bunk 'hole' .... installed some slides on the wall at each end of the bunk - and made up some of the catches they used to use to hold up the sliding "cot-side" ... when they are down they hold up the "cot-side" and you just lift the "cot-side", push the 'holder' in and let the "cot-side' drop .... exactly like a normal cot.
Worked a treat ... and he could stand up if he wanted to and hold the bars and see out easily ... make the uprights in the "cot-side" narrow enough so his liddle head don't fit through though.
Cheers
John

You could go into Supercheap Auto and get a pack of 4 of those load binders with the little hand winch and tie him down...but seriously I do recall seeing a set of woven straps , like a mesh that you could attach to the side , but I can't remember where I seen them, could have been Supercheap or a 4x4 store, probably used as a portable safety barrier in the rear of vans, if I come across a link I'll let you know.
