Hi, Just thought I would go through my plans for the Simpson Desert trip. Like all of these sort of trips it has been a good few years in the planning. And I have to agree with my father here, half the fun is in the planning.
We will be leaving on the morning of the 5th July and stopping the first night at Byrock then Tibbooburra via Wanaaring (if conditions allow) and meeting my dad and step mum at Cameron Corner. Hope to get there early to sort out the vehicles re: provisions etc.
We only have 2 weeks available (but will not be pressured into rushing, if we are late ,bad luck) so getting to Cameron Corner to meet Dad and Di as quick as possible but without pushing it too hard is important.
From then on we will play it by ear as to where we camp, Dad and Di have done this trip a few times and know the spots.
We will be travelling the time honoured route via Merty Merty, Lyndhurst, Maree, William Crk, Oodnadatta, Mt Dare, Dalhousie Springs (cossies packed) then Rig Rd, K1 line to Poeppel Cnr then across Big Red to Birdsville.
Hoping to meet a mate some where on the track that is in an organised group that will be riding bikes from Queensland to WA. (Rather him then me)
The way home from Birdsville will be dependant, as will the whole trip, on the roads.
Last time we were at Birdsville it rained and we didnt come home the way we wanted.
So hopefully this time we will get to go via Cadelga, Cordillo Downs, Innaminka and across to Tharomindah where Dad and Di have their caravan stored at a friends house.
Homeward bound via Cunnamulla, Bourke, Dubbo etc.
At this stage it looks like we will be buying a Black Wolf Turbo 240 tent to camp in. The back will have a storage unit with the Bushman fridge.
One of the problems we have with the jackaroo is a small fuel tank, so we will have to carry 2 jerry cans on the roof on a Rhino rack, we wont fill these untill Mt Dare.
Also on the roof will be a spare tyre and rim, a 4.5 kilo gas bottle and a gear sack to keep or bedding etc. in.
I am looking forward to the trip and I would like to thank all contributors to the Forum either by replying to my questions or through questions that they themselves might have asked or answered for other people.
Counting the days now,
See you on the track,
William
