Mallacoota in Victoria's East Gippsland area is a fantastic fishing and bushwalking destination. A small friendly town still largely untouched by development and surrounded by National Parks. The Foreshore caravan park on the edge of the inlet is huge with over seven hundred sites and is apparently full during the Christmas Holiday period but other times there are plenty of sites to choose from.

We have now returned there to stay on three or four occasions, most recently in October 09 when we stayed for 15 nights unpowered in a waterfront site.

.
John and his mates fished each day for many hours and caught many good sized flathead but kept only enough to eat and returned the others to the water.

I spent a couple of hours each morning doing one of the many walks before returning to the shops to buy the paper and then have a coffee or two in my favourite cafe across the road from the park. I have recently bought an espresso machine for home as I love my coffee and it is about the only thing I miss when we are away from home.

The town has two supermarkets, a butchers, bakery, pharmacy, Hotel and a few other speciality shops plus cafes and a newsagency and even a restaurant.

I have already booked us a similar site for November 2010 when we will stay for three weeks. Our solar panels keep the batteries fully charged each day and we can run any of our 12v equipment without any problems so dont have to stay in the powered area of the park which is so much busier. Also the waterfront sites are excellent when we have the tinny as it can stay in the water in front of the van ready to be taken out each day depending on weather conditions.
