Mudgee to darwin day 12 lots of big rocks

We slept in today, then spent the day checking out the cultural centre and a number of short walks around Uluru and Kata Tjuta. We drove around the base of Uluru, and walked at various points to waterholes, and other points of interest at the base. Some brave (or foolhardy) people were climbing the rock, but we weren't tempted. I climbed it years ago as a teenager, it's even steeper than I remembered, we watched a few people that really seemed to be struggling with the climb. We chatted to a ranger, who said they often have call outs and rescues for people who have overestimated their capabilities. Anyway, the traditional owners prefer that people don't climb, and we were happy to respect their wishes.

We drove out to Kata Tjuta, and walked into the Valley of the Winds, it is such a surreal landscape.

Tomorrow we head over to Kings Creek Station for a night, then the Mereenie Loop road to somewhere else...

I'll try to add some more pics soon, I have already taken about 1000, I need to wade through and delete all the crappy ones.
