Day 3 and 4 Kapunda

ArrivedKapunda in the late afternoon to a very warm welcome from our cousins, so nice to catch up with them all. On Friday Morning Peter went with Dan who was helping out with some shearing, then after lunch we had a tour around the sights of the Barossa valley with Anne and Rob, and a few drinks and dinner at the Vine Hotel. It is amazing how green and lush it all looks, when we here for Dan and Ashley's wedding in January 2012 the country was so dry, it's quite a contrast. There was a bit of rain and quite chilly temperatures.

On Saturday the boys did some sheep work, putting the sheep in the shed ready for shearing on Monday to keep them dry. Then a quiet afternoon for me, while Dan and Peter went touring the countryside with the highlights being the local pubs. We had another lovely family dinner, followed by a fiercely competitive game of Jenga, whilst watching the cricket.

Day 5 Kapunda to Farina

A big day of driving today, 541km, got in to Farina about 4.30pm to set up camp and light the pig. The scenery changed dramatically over the drive, with the heavily cropped farms giving way to larger and larger properties, more grazing, and finally the sparsely settled saltbush plains and rugged scenery of the Flimders Ranges. We frequently saw emus, big mobs of sheep most with lambs, a few cattle, and occasionally a magnificent eagle. We fuelled up at Burra, with diesel and coffee, and stopped for homemade lunch at Hawker. We dropped in at Leigh Creek to use the facilities, lucky we didn't need groceries as everything appeared to be closed. The campground at Farina is very well set up with (flushing!) loos and fireplaces, plus a woodfired shower setup. There were quite a few other campers, but plenty of room to spread out and relax. It's mild and clear tonight, but cool enough to enjoy the fire.
