AMO'S

Day 114 8/11/11 got the days mixed up but now i' m back on track, I think. Anyway here the days just roll on and often don't know what day it is!
Tues. Left naturaliste- Leeuwin NP to go into the Great southern forests area. The land of the Karri 90m tall and the marri ,jarrah and the Tingle tree 40m tall. Some of the Karris are 300 years old and tower straight up.
Went thru Pemberton and on to D'Entrecasteaux NP. Bit disappointed with this NP , we only actually found the council camp ground I admit tho, but as it was getting late and the weather still was not great went east some more and found Shannon NP.
Pulled in late at about 5 pm but plenty of good spots amongst the towering timbers and wood supplied (cooking purposes only) Just as well, cos it was freezing!
Day 115 9/11/11 Wed Shannon NP . Had a walk thru the forest to the Shannon dam. This area used to be a big timber lopping town but it's been deserted for many years. 23 km Scenic Great Trees drive around the park with commentary via FM radio was terrific- gave you history , botanical info and interviews with former residents and workers.

Day.116. 10/11/11 Thurs . Back to the coast, found the council run Parry's Beach camp ground. Fires allowed and cheap, cheap cheap! Solar showers not the best but all else good and plenty of shade provided by the many trees. The Albany Hash Harriers had camping weekend too with a large area reserved. Could get loud. We left before the gun night. Hope they had great time.

Day.117 11/11/11 Fri. Remembrance day. Denmark is another beautiful town. Visited nearby Boat Harbour too- long dirt road in with some sandy spots but we were the only ones there. Had an unproductive fish but good spot.
Tried the marron, not as good as the crabs we cooked!
Day 118 12/11/11. Sat. Fitzgerald river NP, Hammersley inlet 50 km off the highway. Had it all to ourselves. Many roads were closed due to either the heavy rain or closed to stop the rot from the die back fungus. This meant our sightseeing was a bit limited.
Day 119 13/11/11 Sun. Wanted to find the Hammersley Beach but after many slow miles over dunes turned around unsuccessful . Didn't think it was smart to get bogged way out here with no others around!
The early part of drive was worth it tho for the diversity of plants. So many different banksias and grevilleas. Heaven again!
After lunch tossed up whether to stay and bludge the afternoon or pack and go. Running out of time now so found another spot.
Been always lucky with places starting with Q - Quobba, Quondong Pt and Quagi Beach no different. For the pricely sum of $2/person donation
Good camping area with own shelters on lovely beach. There are feral cats and the toilets are also feral, worst weve encountered, but then what do you expect for two bucks!
Day.120 14/11/11. Mon. fished at Quagi Beach with no luck.
Interesting use of rubbish on the beach.
Visited the nearby Stokes NP all the blurbs read it is 'the most picturesque and intriguing inlet on the south coast'. Big claims, It was indeed very nice. Camping area has all been upgraded, amenities fantastic, sites good size just a bit sterile, tall bush but no shade. Altho Quagi had terrible facilities, it did have shade+++. Had a fish, just throwbacks!
There are so many banksias, when up the hill you look down on a sea of flowers!
Day 121. 15/11/11 Tuesday . Passing thru Esperence. What a beautiful place . The beaches are amongst best. Would have loved to continue to the Cape Le Grande NP but time is pressing. Christmas is coming. And guy wants to go to Kalgoorlie! So north we go!
