>> DAY 104 28/10/11 fri coronation beach. This is a beautiful campground, small- there are about 20 bays but this weekend being a long weekend brought all the kite surfers and wind surfers from Perth. People kept coming wanting spots despite the sign back on the main road.
>> Apparently no wind at all in Perth so only option for these nuts was to travel.
>> There was plenty of wind here to satisfy them too. As we tried our best to get out of it they wanted more! 50 or 60 must have been in the water in the pm making a great sight.

>> Day 105 decided to leave coronation beach and give our spot to someone who enjoyed the wind more. Read later it was world renowned as kite surfers heaven and often had competitions hence the enormous lookout. It all made sense. On we went searching a sheltered spot. Stayed at Greenough CP . Looked a good spot on the beach and at the river mouth.
>> Caravan park was huge and full of long termers. Didn't have a very holiday feel to it and the wind, she still blew! Fishing was meant to be pretty good, had a try but a bit windy.
>> Day 106 sun headed into Geralton, checked out the port area. A lot was going on despite the annual Blessing of the Fleet being cancelled for the first time since the 1900's. Crystal clear water of course.
>> The gold coast clipper arrived into port from Capetown, leading the way in the round the world clipper race. The other 9 were all due in during the week for a week of partying.
>> Saw a memorial high on the hill so went to investigate. A cruise ship was also in port so there were visitors everywhere. Free tours of the memorial to the HMAS Sydney were being run for them but they kindly asked us to tag along. The memorial to the 645 sailors was in 5 parts each symbolic- the 645 metal seagulls flying, the curved walls with all sailors named representing the nations arms, the bow of the ship and the searching to sea woman. The final part, the contemplative pool was yet to be opened. The tour ran by volunteers was terrific.
>> Ah back in town that night for thai food Sunday!
>> Day 107 mon picked up the parcel we were waiting on and out of geraldton. Finally, the long weekend held us up a bit.
>> Stayed at the pinnacles cp in Cervantes. Lovely small shady caravan park but full of flies!
>>

>>
>> Day 108 tues Melbourne cup day. The numbung NP and the pinnacles were not far away. These limestone structures are quite bizarre. There are a few ideas how they got there but geologists are not sure. Makes a very stark landscape. Had a walk, clever people brought their fly face nets, and followed an emu strolling thru the pinnacles. A very different landscape.
>> With the 3 hr difference forgot the 'race that stops a nation' arriving at the country club just after the race was run! Had a drink tho, minus flies and off to see the rest of the sights.
>> At Lake Thetis we saw more stromalites, still much like rocks to me The boardwalk out there was a safe haven to pairs of monogamous bob tail skinks, saw 6 in 15 mins.

>> Day 109 2/11/11 wed . This was a relaxing stop and we caught up the Germans and Austrian from Herald Bight. If only they could fix the flies!!
>> Went thru Perth, stopping at Kings Park and walked in the footsteps of the Queen. It was beautiful especially the area dedicated to natives. There were flower beds full of kangaroo paw of every colour. Magnificent! Perth certainly put on great display, pity about qantas strike!
