Today as planned we headed to Cradle Mountain, the day was perfect mostly sunny with the occasional cloud shading the sun. Traffic on the very good sealed road was light. We came a cross a large number of vehicles stopped at a viewing point on the main Cradle Mountain road well before the turn off so we joined the multitudes and stopped to take in the view. It is at the top of a steep climb just before dropping down into a Heath covered valley. The view of Cradle Mountain was very good, unfortunately my camera doesn't do it justice. We then proceeded to the Visitor centre where we looked over the items on display and collected our tickets for the shuttle bus to Dove Lake below Cradle Mountain. Two things to note for future visitors is that there is a limit to the number of cars that can proceed further and they encourage people to use the shuttle buses. The buses run about every 10 minutes so its really not inconvenient. The issue with the busses is that they charge for them, but if you have a long term Parks Pass it is free. As we were going to visit a number of Parks on this trip we purchased a parks pass on board the Empress on the way over. There are a number of walks available in the area each of different difficulties and areas. We chose to walk to what was called glacial Rock lookout and then later to the Boat Shed. The views were great and the walk reasonably easy except for a couple of steeper uphill sections. We stopped for a break at the boatshed and then returned to the visitors centre for lunch. The trip back to Waratah was again easy and little traffic.
