Baz - The Landy

Marree is the town at the start of the Birdsville Track from which the famous Australian Outback Postman, Tom Kruse, headed off on his 500 kilometre trip along the Track to deliver mail to the many Stations that dot the area before arriving at Birdsville, and ahead of a return trip.

Tom's exploits are well documented in a number of books and immortalised in the 1954 film "The Back of Beyond".

And at the post office and refuelling stop in Marree on a recent trip, we were asked to deliver a couple of items along the Track. Remote communities in Outback Australia often rely on the goodwill of others to deliver mail and much needed goods and equipment.

So we had our own son, Tom, the Outback Mailman delivering parcels to the Mungerannie Hotel.

Good work TomO, I reckon Tom himself would be pleased!

As a footnote… “The Landy” came about as a consequence of owning three Land Rover Defenders, but as you can see this has now changed and yes, I've recovered fully! And whilst I'm reluctant to refer to the new vehicle as “The Landy” that’s for sure; the owners’ of either brand would never forgive me!

But “The Landy” reference has stuck, so “The Landy” it is…

Cheers, Baz – The Landy
