We were off to do the Undara Lava Tubes today and tried to book the 1PM tour from the lodge. There is this fire raging many kilometres away and apparently it has been all hands to the fire so there was a shortage of people to conduct the normal day to day stuff. It meant we were driving there 44K away on spec that there would be a tour. Firstly there is no way you can take yourself they have it all tied up so that you must go with an organised tour. The tour costs $50/person, is it expensive? – yes! Is it worth it? Maybe! I liked the tour and even though this is the second time in 20 years I still found it extremely interesting. It is almost elitist to charge a price so high that it precludes a lot of people from seeing this natural wonder.

It was an easy drive from Mt Surprise and it made a lot of sense for us to stay here and day trip to Undara. When we returned home I noticed one of the rear tyres was flat, I guess one of the benefits of 4 rear tyres is that “not knowing” is possible as I felt nothing along the way. I found a small leak in the centre of the tyre and inserted two plugs to hopefully stop the leak. Ironically this is our first puncture and it happened on bitumen not on those rough stone roads we have been travelling on over the last couple of months. We were booked in to the park pork roast dinner tonight and it was lovely to sit with total strangers and talk about travel and just about anything you feel like.

Today has just flashed by! It has been a great day and it went just soooo quick.
A new way of life is emerging.
