ExplorOz Newsletter - Issue 114

15th September, 2006. In this issue: Our thoughts go out to the families and friends of Steve Irwin and Peter Brock, New Maps on CD, Ningaloo Trip Review, Forum Netiquette Tips and New ExplorOz Team Member.

Dear ExplorOz Reader,
The sudden loss this fortnight, of two well known Aussie icons, has made a great impact within our industry. The volume of discussion these events have generated in our Forum is testament to the depth of compassion and shock that we feel. Our thoughts go out to the families and friends of Steve Irwin and Peter Brock. On a lighter note, we hope you enjoy this edition of the ExplorOz newsletter - its full of good news!

Ningaloo Trip Review

Located within the ExplorOz Trip Journals, this a brief review of the recent 3 week ExplorOz trip to Ningaloo, Western Australia Located between Exmouth and Coral Bay about 1200km north of Perth, Ningaloo is about 300 km long and is the largest fringing coral reef in Australia.

We stayed at South Lefroy Bay, just one of 5 approved areas set aside for camping within the Ningaloo Station. We found it very well managed with exceptionally good camping for a low fee.

Read about our travels to this beautiful spot; how we obtained power with a foldable 100w solar panel, how we kept things cold using a 40L fridge and ice box and how we used a cheap but very efficient cloth gazebo to shade the camp.

We are currently converting the ExplorOz site to a new page model using ASP.Net technology. This page is one of the first new pages to be created in this environment, so please let us know if you experience any errors or issues in viewing this new Journal article. Forum Netiquette Tips

Trolling - This is a term, which has been given to someone who enjoys upsetting others by starting arguments, being disrespectful or insulting for no reason other than to gain attention. This problem can quickly and easily turn a once enjoyable and humble Forum into a war-zone, by attracting other trolls and turning away decent posters. You can help us nip this in the bud, by:

  • ignoring posts by trolls

  • use the Moderator Alert button

We do our best to moderate the Forum, however, we admit it is a difficult job and we would greatly appreciate your help in minimising the attention given to trolls.

Think before you Post - the site is dedicated to providing quality information to a broad range of people beyond the individuals that you may be addressing within each thread. A quick glance of the thread views verifies this. So, before you post, keep in mind that each post remains online indefinitely and every word is fully searchable. The implication is that the more helpful and detailed your responses the better for future readers - beyond the timeframe of the current thread.
