Edition 221: 9th December 2010
Hi ExplorOz Reader,
Only 1 more newsletter before 2010 is done and dusted - and what a year it's been! Not only have we celebrated the 10th Anniversary of ExplorOz, but we've grown in terms of Members and active volunteers, and particularly in total site activity with over 1 million visits to the site per month! Well-known travel websites that we outrank are: Getaway, Top Gear, CarAdvice, NineMSN Motoring, Bikepoint, Discount New Cars, Herald Sun - Travel, Qantas Travel, Please Take Me To, and the majority of online newspaper travel sections, all Government owned Travel sites, and all 4WD & RV Magazine websites such as Overlander, Caravan & Motorhome (source: Nielsen Market Intelligence).
In a time of great technological change, we have particuarly focussed on creating new Member services, on the backbone of our strength as an IT company, to utilise mobile-to-web technology, such as EOTrackMe, and mobile Blog and Place updates. Currently, Members are noticing changes to their profile pages, with our focus on bringing all your online activity together in the one easy-to-find place. Better for you, and better to share with family and friends!
Sneak Peak at what's coming...
Members with blogs and user-treks (either uploaded, or saved from EOTrackMe) will soon be able to connect the two together. Just published today is the first live beta test sample - see David & Michelle's
2010 Wiluna to Telfer via Gibson Desert blog. The embeded picture strip at the top (containing a satellite picture, route averages, and altitude chart) has been included through new blog tools with just one click of a button. Be sure to click the "Open User Trek" button to view the route on a zoomable map window on the Member's profile page.
Keep an eye out on television for ExplorOz featured in every episode of the Pat Callinan's 4x4 Adventures. The new series is currently airing Tuesdays on ONE-HD 6.30pm (AEST).

Brand New Title - this fantastic book is a complete guide to how 4WD's work and how to take them off-road. An ideal addition to any off-roader’s collection, it’s also a great gift idea to inspire your mates to take their 4WDs off-road and start exploring!
Nomads Notes Software
This "Digital Travel Diary" Software records all of your travel memories using the daily journal and photo album, and formulates reports that help you to assess your travel costs (including fuel usage and travel expenses). Plus you can export everything into PDF formats to show to family and friends, or load into ExplorOz Member Blogs! Treat yourself to a great new program to record your next trip – or it’s an ideal last minute Christmas Gift, just enter the recipient’s name and email address into the order comments.Smartwool PHD Socks
This year it’s definately OK to give socks for Christmas, but only if you give PHD socks. We’ve tried and tested these Merino wool socks and can confidently report they're light enough for summer, the moisture-wiking technology draws away any moisture so is healthy for troublesome feet, they offer fantastic foot and arch support and won’t bunch - so anyone who gets a pair of these will be very impressed, and as an introductory offer we’re taking 20% off the RRP so go on, give the gift of socks proudly!
