ExplorOz Newsletter - Issue 43

23rd April, 2003. In this issue: Left Margin - Latest News Box, New Feature Launch - In Car Satellite Communications, Road Conditions, New Products in the Adventure Shop.
Dear ExplorOz Reader,

This is an enormous newsletter packed full of useful new site features and many new and updated products in our shop!

Left Margin - Latest News Box

The box titled Latest News is now automated with links to new stuff. This includes Press Releases and a new feature called Site Updates.

Site Updates - this link takes you to a page showing every single page that we have edited or new pages right across the entire site within the last month. This is done to provide you with easy and automatic notification of these changes. As you will see, there's a lot of updates going on continuously.

Thanks to all that responded to our plea for your support!

In our last newsletter we put out a plea for Visitors and Anonymous site users to pay for Membership. We had such an incredible response that we have renewed faith in your loyalty and will continue to put a big effort to improving the Membership program. Thank you to all that have shown your support this way - it makes a big difference. Keep it coming please!
Advertising and Sales
Also, as previously mentioned, not enough businesses are advertising on ExplorOz yet to cover our operating costs. You can help in 3 ways:
  • tell the stores & tour operators that you visit ExplorOz. Advise them that they can advertise for FREE on ExplorOz. Then tell them that there is an "Add Business" button (under our Advertising menu) OR
  • enter the business into our prospects system yourself (Add Business)- however this will only email them an introductory letter advising them that someone has referred their business and provide a link to follow to setup a listing (they chose a free listing or a paid Priority + listing) OR
  • become a commission-based Advertising Co-ordinator for ExplorOz. We are looking for people from WA, VIC and QLD.

New Feature Launch - in car satellite communications

There is a new application for satellite technology being brought to market this year in Australia that will enable travellers to send and receive information from their vehicles via an internet managed satellite system. ExplorOz has been exclusively chosen to be the launch pad to bring the new service to the 4WD and caravanning community of travellers.  Click here to read the full article

Road Conditions

Road Conditions reports are updated each week with all the input we've received during the period from local councils, main roads departments and national park offices around Australia. In many areas of Australia reports are not issued unless there has been a change, and often we do not know when to expect a new report. Our consolidated report is only as good as the information we receive - so if you find any anomalies please let us know and we can fix it immediately.
Coming Soon  for members only - live update interaction

More new books

Bush Tracks of Victoria $19.80

This is the 4th edition of the popular Ron & Viv Moon guidebook to Victoria's tracks. At 104 pages, with 25 different treks there's plenty in this book to keep you active on your weekends in Victoria.

National Parks of NSW $27.95

Written by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, this Gregory's publication is in its 4th edition (but is the first time we've stocked it here on ExplorOz). It's a very comprehensive book suitable for all sorts of recreations, not just 4WDring, but contains all the camping and mud map info you need to plan a trip.

Updated products

Australia Motorcycle Atlas $24.95

This is a totally revamped edition of Hema's Motorcycle Atlas. It has always been ring bound, in a special format size and presented in a weatherproof plastic wallet for practical use but it has now been further evolved. The atlas  now contains 50 "top rides" around Australia as detailed trek notes with the atlas taking up the rear 92 pages of the book. The rides are cross-referenced on the map pages also.

Hema Great Desert Tracks CD Rom $79.00

The Hema Great Desert Tracks (GDT) CD Rom has been repacked and now comes merchandised in a presentation box, rather than just the plastic case. However, the main change is that the Companion Guide booklet is now included (previously was only included on the CD in electronic form).

Camps Australia-wide  $42.95

Camps Australia-wide has been revised and is now in its second edition. This was a very popular cost-saving reference book so we expect it will continue to be a hot seller for anyone looking to find a cheap (or even free) place to stay the night in Australia.

New maps

Simpson Desert Map $9.95

Hema's new Simpson Desert Map. This one is so new we haven't even got it in stock as we go to publication with this newsletter. However, you can place your order, as we have 8 copies due to arrive in a few days time.

So, we wish you the best for the start of this peak outback travelling season. Travel safely, share the road and most of all Tread Lightly. If you do go away on a trip then please don't forget to enter your trek fuel data, enter fuel prices and keep us all informed of road conditions.
