New Books

These beautiful books are great for anyone who wants to know more about the history, the buildings, the icons, the people, behind the places you visit in Queensland. Most places featured (in full colour and original B&W photographs), represent the heritage of ordinary people - shopkeepers, shearers, railway workers, station hands, miners and teamsters and these books are designed to help you appreciate the rural history of places you visit on your travels.

The 3 book series is divided into regions as follows:

Heritage Trails of the Queensland Outback
This guide describes about 500 special places through Outback Qld with simplified route maps of eight highway trails.
$29.95

Heritage Trails of the Great South East
As above, this guide presents almost 600 historic places within easy reach of Brisbane with simplified route maps of 8 trails.
$27.45

Heritage Trails of the Tropical North
This guide describes almost 600 heritage places, covering an area extending from the Torres Strait Islands and Cape York Peninsula to Cairns and Port Douglas with simplified route maps of 8 highway trails.
$29.95

New National Park Books

Kakadu & Nitmiluk
This guidebook is about the rocks, landforms, plants, animals, Aboriginal culture, and European history and walking trails and camp facilities within Kakadu and Nitmiluk National Parks.
$24.95

Bungle Bungle Range
Similar format to the above, covering history of the area and landforms, and walks. Everything you need to know about the Bungles is here.

New Trek note

Painted Desert (Coober Pedy - Oodnadatta)

Aptly named, the Painted Desert is a picturesque area and is often overlooked by travellers moving between Oddnadatta and Coober Pedy. It's not a difficult trip, but is a great alternative to get off the main track when touring through this part of South Australia's Desert region.

New for Members - Photo Gallery

We have just added a very useful NEW feature for Members only, being the addition of a Photo Gallery.

How it works, is that Members may now upload pictures into their My Profile page, with a maximum of 6 stored and viewable at any one time. (David's profile shows 4 out of a possible 6 have been loaded).

The beauty of this feature is that now you don't have to stretch the capabilities of the Rig Pic facility, to be able to show other pics to viewers on ExplorOz. Essentially, each Member now has their very own web-space for their photo gallery.

(David is still developing additional features to the gallery, which we'll launch in the next newsletter)

Improved Members My Profile Page

To make better use of the My Profile area for Members, we have added some nice new features:

  • revamped the page to include your Photo Gallery

  • added the option to enable your email address and/or webaddress to be shown as a hyperlink (see note below)

  • the Forum footer for a Member has been altered to now point directly to the Members Profile page, rather than directly to Member Message

  • Member Messages are now sent from the Member's Profile page (Member - Member only).

(eg. See ExplorOz Team - David's Profile)

NOTE: Web email spiders & crawlers may process your rig/profile page and collect your email and web details. If you do not want this to happen then do not enable these options. Instead, we provide a secure method of sharing information via Member Msg. The choice is yours.
