Information

Bribie Island is 65km north of Brisbane off the Bruce Highway and east along the Caboolture Bribie Road. It is linked to the mainland by toll-free road bridge.

Before camping in the Recreation Area, you must obtain and have displayed both a Camping Permit and a Vehicle Access Permit. Fees for Camping Permits are: "$5.60 per person per night or $22.40 per family group per night; $3.10 per person per night for students and accompanying adults on approved excursions." The Vehicle Access fee is: "1 week or less = $41.75; more than 1 week (up to 1 year) = $130.40." All fees are payable in advance, usually on-line. Rangers can issue on-the-spot fines. Don't risk it!

Ocean Beach camping area, a designated Queensland Recreation Area, is a strip 16km to 19km north of the 4WD beach access point on North Street, Woorim. Unless the access is closed, travel is along the beach, and best before or after low tides. Especially after rain and higher than normal tides, travel may involve some fast-flowing tidal saltwater creek crossings (and I have seen them too deep to cross, even at low tide) as the Island's lagoons and lakes drain. Alternately, access may be possible along the Northern Access Track from White Patch. This Track is also subject to closure at either end by Rangers. Check when you book.

Campsites just behind the sand dunes are accessible from defined track entrances—use these and do not drive over dunes. Track entrances are designated with a letter symbol while all 63 sites are numbered. Camping is not allowed in the foredunes or on the beach.

Usual National Park rules apply (no generators, pets and firewood apply).

Facilities include micro-flush toilets, a portable toilet dump point, screened cold showers, water taps (treat before drinking). Check the map when you book a site, as you can be some distance from these facilities. Open fires are prohibited. Only gas stoves are allowed. Fire and heat beads are prohibited on the ocean beach and associated camping areas.
It is advisable to carry water for drinking, cooking and washing; gas stove; rubbish bags; insect repellent. Visitors camping away from facilities are encouraged to bring portable toilets to help reduce bush toileting.
