In last week’s newsletter, we explained how you can create and access MyTreks (http://www.exploroz.com/Newsletter/263.asp).

You might notice that these are also accessible from site navigation (the Treks menu lists User Treks separately to ExplorOz Trek Notes).

But what we can offer you now, is the ability to upgrade your own User Trek into a full ExplorOz Trek Note and be credited as the author if you wish.

The purpose of this is to go beyond just publishing your route file to add the necessary extras such as photos, waypoints and information for points of interest/campsites along the way, plus the required trip planning information, and a bit of extra information such as history and environment.

We have devised a really simply way for interested people to do this using an online form. Our system will extract data from the mapping engine (Places & your User Trek) and present it in the standard ExplorOz Trek Note format together with the extra information you’ve provided.

If you’re interested to get started, just send us an email explaining what routes you’ve driven and recorded that you’d like to convert to Trek Notes. We’ll ask you to upload your route file as a User Trek to check if it’s suitable and if so, we simply modify your ExplorOz profile to allow access to the Treks Admin section and provide you with a pdf instruction guide via email.

Thanks to Stephen Langman who is the first to give this a go from beginning to end, he has recently loaded the new Maralinga Range Tour trek, plus 2 alternative routes to get there and I know he's currently working on more treks as we speak.
