 About Me

My wife Robyn and I have been into 4wd since 1996 when we bought a Jeep Cherokee and joined the Toyota Landcruiser Club in Darwin. We have done countless long weekends and day trips with the club and or with friends to local spots over the years. But eventually it was time to get rid of the Jeep and buy a real 4wd, she was just getting too expensive to keep on the road. A problem most Jeep owners seem to end up with after 7+ years or so. The motor and gearbox can't be killed with a stick, it's everything else that falls off or breaks and very expensive to fix. So we decided to buy a new 79 Series RV Turbo Diesel cab chassis in 2002 (first one on the road in Darwin) and put a fully welded aluminium oversized Telsta box on the back which we sleep in. We had this built by local firm Falcon Engineering also a first for them. We are still getting away to our favourite local spots but we have also done several big trips in "OLRED". The Victorian High Country in 04'. The Canning Stock Route in 05'. The Oonadatta Track to Broken Hill and back via Birdsville in 06'. Cobourg Peninsula and Gulf Country in 07'. Davenport, East & West McDonald Ranges and back via the Tanami Track in 08'. Planning Cape York in August 09'. The vehicle has all the fruit on board. Ox Hydrlic Winch, ARB Bull Bar, IPF spoties, ARB Twin Diff Lockers, Dual battery system, performance chip, Bellow airbags, OME springs, Koni shocks, Twin Tongue compressor, 2500 CTec battery charger, 1000watt invertor, 110ltr Weaco, (old model with freezer compartment), reversing camera, GME UHF, JVC stereo with ipod conection, Iridium Sat Phone, 70 ltr stainless under floor water tank, two spares on outside back wall, high lift jack, Honda EU10 Generator, full recovery gear, several slide out draws and slide out tables on either side for cooking and food prep/mixing the Wild Turkey & Pepsi Max .......... Which makes it a pretty comfortable rig especially on long trips, we can just open the side doors and jump into bed. Which is fully fly screened with zippers.
