The title is a bit misleading because I haven't gone yet. After two years of thinking about it and planning for it, I am now in the last minute packing and panicking stage. I leave in three weeks.

My family room and spare room are filled with things to take. My packing is usually fairly simple - food, water, a few bottles of wine, a couple of slabs of beer, fishing gear and my swag (not necessarily in that order). This time I am going for three months so I want a few creature comforts.

I am taking my Oztent just in case it rains. I have installed a cradle for my mobile so that I can contact my kids and to connect to my laptop to pay my bills while I am away (when/if there is any service). That seems to be about it. Maybe another couple of reds?

I am heading up the Stuart Highway to Katherine first. I am going fishing with my nephew for a few days so hopefully I can start the trip off with a good feed of fish. Then on to Kununurra. My plans at this stage are pretty loose. I am thinking of heading to Broome via the bitumen. My kids have forbidden me to go to Wolfe Creek but I want to see The Bungle Bungle. I want to try out the fishing north of Broome - Middle Lagoon etc. - and also spend some time at Cape Leveque.

Then it is down to Port Smith to meet up with friends before I take the Gibb River Road back to Kununurra. There are many places to visit on the GRR and I have a list a mile long from reading Forum entries, blogs etc. on this site.

I want to spend a week in Darwin to catch up with relatives and have a look at Litchfield and then down to Innamincka for three or four weeks of fishing with mates. I haven't worked that part of the trip out yet but I would like to see some of outback Queensland and also go to Birdsville again.

Anyway that is weeks away and I have a lot to do before I go anywhere.

..... To Be Continued .....

Enjoy the trip Robert. Will look forward to the updated entry as you progress. You'll love the Bungles and Cape Leveque. Bugger the kids, go and have a look at Wolfe Creek Crater. It's only a movie, besides the majority of it was shot in SA lol. On the GRR, don't miss Mitchell Falls. Cheers and safe travelling. Mick

Thanks for your good wishes Mick. Reading your blogs has made me determined to write my own. Too many times I have come home from an outback trip and haven't written anything down. A few months later I look over the photos and can't remember where they all were taken or the names of the people we met etc.
Regards,
Bob
