About Me
My wife, Amanda and I have been keen
camping people since before we had kids. We have owned a series of 4x4 cars and only recently upgraded to the new V8 landcruiser ute as our two teenage boys are getting to the stage of having their own driving licenses. We have lived in WA originally but then moved to the NT for 6.5 years where we had a great time. The NT really offers so many
camping opportunities and was a great base for exploring the
top end of
Australia including
Queensland and WA.
We have recently moved back to WA for our kids final education and to be closer to family. (the biggest thing you miss in the NT). The whole family loves
camping and we have spent many weeks in some amazing
places in the NT that you would just never find or get a chance to see unless you lived there. My experience as a fisherman just expanded so much in the topend with the endless opportunities on offer and so many fish. I love
fishing especially flyfishing.
My previous white dual cab landcruiser was equipped with most everything that you could need out
camping. This had been slowly built up over years of
camping, seeing other setups, and a few brainstorms. When we purchased the new V8 Landcruiser Ute 2008 I immediately set about fitting it out with all that I could to equal the old cruiser. Some of the set up includes-
UHF radioBosse compressor with air tank
Air bag
suspension with controllers
Air hose and gauge that runs off the tank.
70 litre under tray
water tank with electric pump
HiLift jack
Fire Extinguisher
IPF spot lights
Twin sideways work lamps
Dual batteries with smart controller
Anderson plug going to trayback camper
UniSolar panel over cab powering extra battery
ARB bull bar, scrub bars, side steps.
Custom bar work over cab.
Under tray storage lockers.
Tools including socket sets, puncture repair, snatch strap, 5 tonne tow chain, 3 tonne come-along, welding mask, selection of h/t nuts and bolts, 400amp jump leads, set of ocky straps, couple lengths of rope - all of which have been used out
camping.
Travelander slide on camper which comes with just about everything to go
camping in comfort - twin
waeco fridges, 3 burner gas stove, queensize innerspring bed, LED lighting everywhere, twin deep cycle batteries with a built-in 240v 3 stage charger, 120 litre
water tank, pressure pump to sink with flickmaster tap, gas hotwater system for sink and
shower cubicle on the side for hot showers, and the whole lot contained in a hardfloor camper with remote control power arm that unfolds it and folds it up again.
- see website www.travelander.com.au
All fish that are seen in my photos where released unharmed. I love
fishing but rarely eat fish. Mostly I just catch and release. (except that barra on the last page - I ate that one and it was yummy)

We have just completed a weekend trip to the wildflower distric. What a stunning scene with carpets of flowers. I attempted a trip 2 years ago even though there was very little rain and went to some of the same places but saw nothing.
The first ...
