Hello John & Val. looks like an awesome trip. Like your blog.
One thing that worries me though is your habit of
camping in dry creek beds..... You need to remember, that rain over 100km's away could come flooding down your dry creek bed... then you would be "down" the creek, and not up it, without a paddle and in big strife. Travelling in the dry season does not guarantee your safety.
A few years ago one family did what you did... camped in a dry creek bed just over the NT border into QLD. Their vehicle was destroyed along with their
camping gear, and lucky to escape with their lives. Fortunately, the 'father' was awake, heard the 'wind' rushing down the creek, grabbed the kids, yelled at the wife, and got out just as the water hit their tent. They won't camp in a dry creek bed again I can assure you. You might get away with it 99 times, but not necessarily the 100th. Wish you all the best on your future endeavours.

Thank you for your comment Fred, and a very valid one too. We do keep this in mind, and never use major watercourses. Local drainage lines are good though, offering vegetation to provide privacy, shelter from wind and sometimes a bit of firewood. We actually camp beside, rather than in dry creekbeds.
Cheers
John
