This publication is designed for enthusiasts and sets out aspects of gold fossicking in Queensland as a recreational and tourist activity. The book is written in a non-technical style that is both informative and easily read. It provides intending fossickers the information about gold and how and where to search for it so everyone can have rewarding fossicking experiences. The introductory to Queensland’s vast mineral wealth and the many opportunities these minerals provide the fossicker, in particular that of gold, leads the reader into the main text of the book. There are six major chapters covering all aspects of gold and fossicking for the precious metal.
The State’s vast goldfields and the rich endowment of gold left behind to be found are remarkable. The bonanza for fossickers and the ‘electronic’ gold rush continues unabated. Ongoing improvements in detector technology, is further good news for detector users, which simply means more and more gold, will be found in these goldfields.
The author now retired from the workforce in the government sector has drawn upon his extensive knowledge of Queensland’s minerals having visited many of the State’s gold and mineral fields and mines during field work over many years. He also had a working role in the formulation of the legislation for recreational and tourist fossicking and the administration of it, which remains in force today. He has an understanding of the needs of the recreational and tourist fossicker and the pit falls and difficulties they may face. It is hoped that anyone interested in gold fossicking whatever their knowledge or skill level might be, will find the information useful that is presented in this first edition.
