Further to previous notifications about the wildfires in Purnululu National Park (The Bungle Bungles), due to significant damage to park infrastructure and visitor facilities and ongoing fires, it has been decided that the park will remain closed for the rest of 2009. While every effort will be made to reopen the park normally on 1 April 2010, this will be subject to an assessment of the conditions in the park after the "Wet Season" and it is possible that the park, or sections of the park may need to remain closed until any necessary repairs and safety inspections are completed. Due to the start of the wet season in the West Kimberley, motorists are advised to be aware that conditions can change rapidly.
The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley advise that there may be water flowing over some Shire roads. 'DO NOT DRIVE INTO WATER OF UNKNOWN DEPTH AND VELOCITY'

4 X 4 HIGH CLEARANCE VEHICLES ARE RECOMMENDED ON ALL SHIRE GRAVEL ROADS THAT ARE OPEN.

Please exercise extreme caution due to scours, washouts and water over floodways and creek crossings.

When travelling on Restricted Roads expect water across flood ways, localised scouring, sandbars and washouts. We advise that caution is taken.
Restricted Road use is intended to prevent damage to roads and to ensure the safety of our travellers.
