Hi all,
A while ago after their trip through the
Gary Junction Rd, Michelle and David wrote about their communications with the
Kiwirrkurra Community regarded
places on the IPA where travellers were allowed to
camp for the night. I notice that the community's
website states that the only place where travellers can stay is Jupiter's
Well. It's a long way from there to the NT border if that is really the case. Does anyone have any recent experience with the community on this matter?
cheers

Make sure you get your permit. The group in front of us had their cars impounded at Kwirrikurra until they paid a $3000 fine for not having a permit.

Thanks. When did you go through? Any trouble with
places to stop overnight?

2020. There were good spots beside the road to pull over and rest.

that story of the $3000 fine and impounding of vehicles just does not sound correct. With what authority was this action taken? If the $3k cannot be paid, where do the travellers stay? ... so many questions.

We were told - they came in for fuel, were asked to see their permits, didn't have any so were sent to administrator's buildings on the
hill where they stayed in the bunkroom till it was sorted,

Suitcase
I have been a regular traveller on this road. Get a permit and don't worry. Its only about 300kms from Jupiter
Well to the NT border, and the road is generally good, particularly from the community to the border.
Stopping to rest is not the same as setting up
camp, and I don't think you have a problem. Once in NT I find it better to
camp away from
Kintore.

We had dinner at Jupiter
Well, in 2018, and pushed on towards the Sandy Blight turnoff, but ended up camping at Mt Webb, at what was obviously a
grader drivers
campsite. Moldboard edge blades scattered around at the
camp. We did have permits
Wonder if one could plead fatigue, if camping anywhere other than Jupiter
Well?
