Hi guys! Does anyone know where I could get hold of a copy of a book about farmstays round Australia?

There are brochures available for particular areas, but someone told me that there is a book available. We stayed at Wogarno Station, 40km south of Mt. Magnet in W.A. - camped out the back of the shearers quarters, and it was perfect. No crowds, magnificent scenery, with the convenience of using the shearers showers and loos (very important for us girls!). We would like to try this style of camping in other parts of the country. We live in Adelaide, but I can always chase the book up elsewhere if someone knows where I can get one.

G'day Anne, used to be involved in this business ourselves years ago and was fun from the hosting point of view too. There used to be a Host Farms Association in Victoria but that seems to have gone but the internet means there are lots of capability to seach in Google.

Most have RAC ratings too which are useful for their gradings. The Host Farms Association used to have about 100 on its listing.

I have just found for Victoria
- http://www.australiafarmhost.com/main.asp is eastern states but not many on the listing
- http://www.visitvictoria.com/ allows you to seach on region and nearest towns within.
- http://www.factv.com/ is Farm and Country Tourist AssociationRegards

The 1 place I mailed that werent too far away was crazy...

Tariff AU$
Mon-Thurs: 1 night AU $150; 2 nights AU$250; 3 nights AU$350; 4 nights AU$450.
Fri-Sun: 1 night AU $210; 2 nights AU$330; 2 nights AU$430.
Thats adults AND children!

Cooked breakfasts included with weekend packages; otherwise first morning only but extra breakfasts available at nominal charge.

$450 for 1 night mid week for me wife and 4yr old son...
or
$630 for a Saturday night for me wife and 4yr old son??? And you only get brekkie! 1 egg and bacon, woohoo....

Am I on the correct planet?

Lookin at some of the ones on the BAB link they are cheaper might look into it again.

Goodness, that sounds a very expensive stay. Wogarno Station cost $7.00 per night per person to camp with power and use of the shearers toilets and showers (clean and pleasant). If you stay in the homestead and have meals then it is much more expensive.

What we are looking for is really a version of bush camping in our camper trailer, but on private property with the added bonus of facilities.

Good luch finding somewhere cheaper!

Hi Anne,
All the advice you have been given is good but just remember that most sites including for example farmstaywa are dependant on the place being a paying member for them to be listed.
As there are hundreds of ways we can advertise and all want between $200 and up to $2000 a year regretfully most of us don't end up on many !
If you have the time and patience then look for and email each tourist bureau for the area you are interested in as almost everyone is listed with their own area visitor center.
For Kimberley WA the Derby Visitor center is a good one, don't recall address from memory but an easy way to their site is
