2nd hand caravans

First of all, many thanks to the people who responded to my question last week re advice on purchasing a 2nd hand van. We have just looked at a Jayco Westport 2000 model 20ft. It seems to be a nice clean van and we liked it. Just one little query and that is, it has the extendable lounge area. It is great as it gives that extra space in the living area but we are concerned if there could be a problem with that area leaking if it was extended during heavy rain. I am hoping there maybe someone out there who owns one of these models and can reassure us this is not a problem. Also would anyone know the approx. purchase price this van would have been new. It has seperate shower/toilet, aircon. wind up tv antenna, cd player. The asking price now is $35000. Is this reasonable. Look forward to your responses, many thanks Julie & Ross

Julie...$35,000 sounds more like a new price for a van. Rule of thumb is $1500 per foot for a new van as I recall.............therefor 20ft should cost you $35000. Depends of course on the features and extras that this van has. If you are worried about the slide-out extension leaking then ask the seller to slide it out and turn a hose on to it and look for leaks. If you like the van then go for it but I would try to get them down to $30,000. Offer $29,000 and take it from there.

Cheers

Good luck with your purchase, but remember that you should trust your dealer completely.... just like you trust real estate and car salespeople, and of course politicians.
