I have a 2002 model Finch Outback and are thorougly happy with it.
I purchased it new almost 2 years ago for a trip to Cairns and weekends away.

Most of our camping is done at bush camps around the State Parks of the Murray River, State Parks around Mansfield high country, Walhalla, ect and I have found it handles the dirt roads and corrigations without any problems. The reason I bought the Outback model was for the higher ground clearance and heavier chassis to handle the dirt roads and corrigations to get to the decent bush camps. We normally set up a base camp and then 4WD from there.

I think it just depends what you want to do with it off road, I would take it down tracks like the Birdsville & Oonaddatta Tracks without any hesitation, but leave the hard core treks to the specialist camper trailers.

The camper is a good size for 2 adults and a couple of dogs or kids.

Are you after any specific information?

Hi Ruts,
I have a 2000 model and am also very happy with it. Did the Oodnadatta Track, Old Gunbarrel, Mereenie Loop and the Alice to Finke tracks earlier this year over some of the worst corrugations I have experienced. Only problem we had was a fractured lower shocker mount which was a bit weak in its original design. Fixed that when I got home with a thicker, reinforced bracket so that shouldn't be a problem any more. Unlike some of the earlier models, ours is completely water tight in pretty severe storms. The only other thing worth mentioning is that you may need to improve on the dust seals front and back where the roof closes down on the body if you intend doing a lot of dirt road travelling. Dust can also sometimes enter via the fridge vents and the door vent. Other than that, they're a great van.
Cheers
Gerry

Thanks Bodie and Gerry for your feedbackon the jayco . i considered it was the best in the field and the wife loved it .ie .the quick set up compared to the trailer campers. ....but guess what? We finished up with asecond hand off road cub kamparoo ..hope its the right choice. Will definitely look at getting afinch off road in a few years although it appears the older models don't handle the ruff stuff like the 2000+ models
