Hello Moneypit, If you weld a chain link (the size chain used as safety towing chain) onto the hitch facing up and another on the drawbar you will be able to turn the hitch on its side and the two will meet up. You can then get a good quality padlock to secure the two. It will save having to find a pole but if the thief comes prepared they will get it. But they do need a Treg hitch receiver to tow it. The other ideas are those clamps used on wheels.

I have a device that is commercialy manufactured for treg style hitches. It is a treg pin made from 316 stainless with a bilock end. you just put it in the hitch when it's not being used. I secure my trailer in the front yard with it.

Try this site. www.havealook.com.au/search.asp We have purchased 3 types of locks for the Van and the Camper which is fitted with a treg. Am completely satified with there products and our stuff is in full view of passer by's which is a bloody nuisance too

Hi Moneypit, not sure if this is what you're after but all I've done is drill out the hole at the bottom of the pin so that it'll take a decent padlock. I can now padlock to the car or just have a padlock through the pin when it's sitting idle - which I'm sure would discourage the light fingered lot....

A friend of mine just uses a Hayman-Reese style locking pin through the Tregg block. Fits perfectly.

Look up the Talon section. I use a non treg type for my tradesmans trailer with the hayman reese also fitted with a matching locking pin. It has foiled two attempted thefts from the vehicle that I know of. One fellow was a little surprised as a size 11 steel cap connected with his kidneys as he tried to belt the lock off with a mash hammer....ahh well you get that when your'e a low life theif. Best $310 I ever spent.
