1997 Landcruiser 80# rear brake disk (rotor)

Hi all,
I have my L/C 1997 checked out at Toyota in Brissy and they suggested a $1200 for geniune Toyoto brake disks or $850 for non-geniune disks. above price includes disks, all pads ,lining for handbrake lining, bleeding and labour. After talked to a guy in Adelaide he quoted $260 for Protex disks, Bendix pads and handbrake lining and postage. I am wonderig should I go for Toyota's or buy above parts and hire someone else to do it? Is Protex a good disk for 4WD ? anyone else has installed it before on their 4WD, especially on 80# L/C.

Someone mentioned he got DBA disks for $90 each last year on this forum, Is this possible for now? Does DBA provide the better value for money?

Any comments are appreciated. Thanks

I had the same problem with my disc rotors (apparently its a known fault in the 80 series) and I to went through the price comparison and ended up getting mine from the following place for $210.00 Inc GST plus freight:

They were very prompt in getting the order away and will accept credit card or do C.O.D.

Thats the way it goes sometimes. I will keep it in mind though, because I now have yet another 80 series (courtesy og a tip truck and my insurance company) and as it is a known fault, I might need to do it all over again some day.

Hope the info was of some help. BTW, are they the cheapest you have come across so far ?

All I know is that they were at the time the cheapest available and they went straight on and worked just fine (until that damn council tip truck tried to get very initmate with my cruiser and now its in cruiser heaven)

The owner of All Fourx4 Spares MR PETER HAYLOC would have to be the most honest man I have ever met in my life, and he is a walking encyclapedia when it comes to Landrovers,If you have a problem he is so helpfull and will tell you in detail how to go about fixing it.I havent tried him out on L/C yet but they are usually about the best price for quality parts supplier you can get.
I have delt with them for 20yrs and if anyone is after parts always give them a ring for a price, I give them the highest possible recommendation.
Interesting thread I have a 97 L/C about 120,000k didn't know about this disc problem when does it rear its ugly head how many ks.

If your a soft foot on the brake it may never affect you.

Disc Brake Australia (DBA)make a slotted disc at a good price ,probably cheaper than Toyotas.The slots keep the disc cooler making it resistant to warping.

I've just last week had all 4 rotors and pads replaced in Perth ( Different world to Qld I know ) ... Was quoted $850. for the job by a reputable 4x4 accessory dealer. Thought that sounded reasonable as Toyota was quoting $300. per rotor.
When we picked up the cruiser, the total bill including use of loan car was $637. Not sure which brand of disks, but they did use bendix pads all round.
Very pleased with service, as you don't usually pay less than quoted price these days.
