EOTopo - Loading on HN6

Thanks for dispatching the EOTopo card so quickly.
I want to put it on my Hema HN6 but the EziOzi2 version of Ozi Explorer doesn't work quite like the laptop version. Can you tell me which files to copy from the card and where to put them on the HN6?

Thanks

Bill,

Really you will only need the ozf4 file for the whole country. This is in the folder \OZF and the two files you need are EOTopo_AUS.ozf4 & EOTopo_AUS_ozf.map - copy these and put them into a sub folder of the" \SDMMC\OziExplorer Maps" folder on the HN6. In the "\SDMMC\OziExplorer Maps" folder create a new folder called EOTopo and put the two files in there.

If you want to use the name search database then copy the two files from the SD card \EOTopo\NameSearch folder and put them into "\ResidentFlash\HNOZI\Name Search" you do not need to create folder for this just put them in this location and you will be able to Load them into Name Search.

If you have any problems or questions please let me know.

Thanks David

This sounds right, and I'm sure it will be fine. A couple of things for others to watch for, though:

1. Copying these large files from one microSD (the one you supplied) to another (the one in the Hema HN6) is a very slow process. The big .ozf4 file takes about an hour on my reasonably fast system.

2. If the copying fails, as mine just did, check the space available on the Hema card. Mine is an 8GB and there is not enough room on it for the Hema and 250K maps which came with the unit plus the big EOTopo .ozf4 file. I don't have a spare 16GB card lying around.

Solution - your files are supplied on a 16GB card, so I'll back yours up on the computer, delete the state files from the card to free up space, copy all Hema's files onto the card and rearrange directories as needed.

Possible problem - I've just read the latest EOTopo discussion on whether the state files should be retained. I think I'll order a 32GB micro SD card (just over $20 for a Samsung Class 10 on Ebay) in case I need it. I'm guessing that the HN6 won't object to a 32GB card.

If anybody out there sees a flaw in this, please let me know.

Bill,

I would just go with the Aus file and forget the states at the moment. Your HN6 will not need the state files to run and you may as well work with the single file. The 16GB will be heaps for a while - I would just do as you suggested and copy the files to Computer and then take what you need to the 16GB card.

Thanks David. I'll report back when all that copying is done.

All done and all seems to be working well. From a quick look at places I know, there's a lot on EOTopo that's not on the 250K. I like the inclusion of sand dunes in the desert areas. We've found the placement of the dunes on Hema maps to be pretty good, and it will be great to have them available at 200K.

It was worth all your hard work, David, and I look forward to the updates.
