I hope your friend's van is recovered Dennis.... spreading the word can only help. If possible, could you post here the measures that your friend may have employed to secure the van ? Tactics used by van owners to discourage theft is an important topic in the vanning community - such information would help others to decide on their own strategies.

Darian,

I agree. It's a good post. I'm in the SE of SA at the moment and saw a van the same colours as the above. I drove around the block to check it out. Obviously negative.

Everybody's nightmare!
I agree with the request for details as taking anti theft steps are important and knowing whats been done on others vans is valuable information.

Where was it parked? I have had heard of campers going from front yards but a van is a bit more difficult.

Hope your post brings a successful result.

This may be the van ?
MEANWHILE, Limestone Coast police in SA have appealed for help after a $45,000 caravan was stolen from Penola. The Lotus twin-axle 'van with Victorian registration S65636 disappeared from the corner of Church and John Street. It had been advertised for sale for the past two weeks and was left with a locking mechanism to prevent it being hooking up - but the thieves cut it off. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Different Rego N/o. ?

Ouch! The insurance company will give the owner a hard time. They like to jump on the fact that it was for sale when it went missing. They will (rightly or wrongly) assume the owner was trying to dispose of the van and will happily make the assumption that perhaps unscrupulous methods were used to rid one self of the van.

*I'm not saying that was the case....just saying I know the criteria most insurance companies use when investigating a loss.
