G-day all, we are heading to
Birdsville in about a month. Leaving from central Victoria up through
Broken Hill, Camerons Corner and Innamicnka. Was unsure about restrictions for taking fruit and veg into the Mildura/
Broken Hill area. Can someone let me know what restrictions there are.

You will be OK going that way with any fruit.
You can stock up in
Mildura or
Broken Hill.
cheers
Dave

Not true I'm afraid Dave.
You cannot take fruit & veg from Victoria into SA or NSW.
Look at
this Quarantine link.

We lived in
Broken Hill for over 20 years and ourselves and hundreds of others from the
Hill regularly brought fruit and veg in
Mildura to take
home.
There is no fruit fly exclusion zone on that road apart from taking fruit 'in to'
Mildura from the north. The bin is near
Wentworth.
There is a fruit fly exclusion zone in
Broken Hill bringing fruit from the east, e.g.
Cobar,Dubbo etc.
There is no fruit fly exclusion zone bringing in fruit from SA to
Broken Hill.

Dave, did you actually look at the link I provided above?
You may
well have been bringing fruit in for 20 years and got away with it, but it is still illegal with fines of up to $100,000.
I think you may be confusing "exclusion zone" with manned Quarantine Checkpoints as you refer to "on that road".
Now I don't care if you choose to not obey the law, but it is inappropriate to give false information to others.
And here is another reference particular to
Broken Hill.

Fair comment Allan, I must confess I didn't know we can't travel to
Broken Hill with fruit from
Mildura or SA.
Certainly plenty of signs about it coming in from the east side, but no signs whatever coming from SA or
Mildura, and I have never heard anything about it in
Broken Hill either..
What do they say about ignorance being bliss?

It could
well be Dave that although they have the "State Boundaries" thing, they realise that it is unreasonable as
Broken Hill is a "de facto" South Australian city and just turn a blind eye to the "Rules".
I must confess that I also turn a blind eye to some things! LOL

Allan,
Broken Hill gets all it's fruit & veg from
Adelaide.
Years gone by it was freighted by rail and now by road.
Re bringing it from NSW to S. A. is a big joke, the Fruit Fly Inspection point is at Oodlawirra yet I can take a turn off the highway and go to Pt.
Augusta and not be checked/caught.
I can also turn off the same highway a few k's away and go to
Adelaide without being checked/caught.
Cheers P&J

The link I posted relates to private travellers. Commercial shipments are required to abide by other rules, and they do.
So you have a shortcut to evade the checkpoint. What other ruses do you use to avoid the laws of Australia?

Allan
In reply to the above:
1) "Commercial shipments abide by the rules' That's my laugh for tonight. Sorry you have a lot to learn on this one.
2) "What other ruses do you use to avoid the laws of Australia"? I think it's rules not ruses. I do not avoid the law as your mind thinks I do, I just said it can be done even though I said "I can"

You can't take any fruit into
Mildura or any F&Veg into
Broken Hill.
Stock up there to head north
