Chescold F400 Explorer

Any ideas on how the Chescold F400 Explorer Fridge/ Freezer works when running on gas. I would be interested to know what temp. etc they get to when operating under normal conditions, when turned onto Freezer mode.Jack at sleep

I purchased a Chescold rc 1180 a couple of years ago and was the best fridg/freezer I have ever used.On gas is the best followed by 240 v the 12 v.A lot of people said the fridge is useless on 12 v when mobile.On a trip across the Simpson the fridge ran perfectly up and down sandhills for the whole trip.A little tip Keep the fridge covered with reflective cover or a damp towel.Turn it down low and you can freeze everything.The rc1180 is the big brother to the f400.

Hi Nobby. We have had the F400 for 4 years now and it has served us well. Can't give you specifics re temps, but have not had any probs. So pleased we also got the RC1180, which is a fridge with a freezing section. I keep reading adverse comments about how they (don't) perform on 12 volt. Have to agree with previous reply and say that they are great, but make sure you have adequate wiring. Twin core 6mm direct from the battery and as short as possible. As the thermostat only controls 240v and gas the only problem we have encountered whilst using it on 12 volt whilst travelling is that it has a tendancy to freeze things up. Just need to turn it off when you stop to stretch the legs etc and then back on to go. By the way, we used the F400 in Broome a couple of years ago in extremely hot and humid conditions and it still worked a treat. Works really well on gas and economical too.

I have had a chescold fridge / freezer for about 15 years , that long I forget the number . No problem . 12v works OK to hold temperature if you run it overnight on gas or electricity . Only problem was that on last trip the 12v connection melted . fixed now.I would buy another . You need to keep it fairly level and put a damp cloth over it if it gets a bit warm , also keep well ventilated to make the absorption heater to work well
