I have been trying to find out the towing capacity and ball weights for our 60 series wagon, didn't think it would be that hard but everyone down to some towbar boys have varying opinions. Generally they seem to agree at about 2500kgs but ball weights from 90 to 250kg.
any help would be appreciated.

I just had alook on a 1987 60 series brochure I have and the max tow weight without brakes is 750kg's and with brakes is 2500kg's "subject to state regulations and towbar design".
There is no weight on towball figure given.
I would have a sticky at a ARb or genuine Toyota towbar fitted to a vehicle, the capacity weights "should" be attached to a plate on the bar.
Interestingly the GVM of a 60 series is given as 2810kgs, I'll bet there are a few that exceed that with accessories never mind the load.

As stated...lol.....different states have different laws on towing. In NSW, you can not tow more than 1.5 times the GVM of the vehicle.(hope i got that right) The 60 GVM is about 2700, but the towbar is only rated to 2500, so that is the limit.
As a general rule, anything above 90kg ball weight is ok, the towbar recommends 150 max on mine, if you run less, the trailer can cause stabilty problems.
If you run more, you should use towing aids to keep braking in check, as the more ball weight on the back, the less weight on the steering (and braking) axle.

Whale,
My 89 model has a 2500kg towbar and was told by towbar specialist that supplied and fitted it 2 years ago that ball weight is 10% so 250kg Am in S.A. if this makes a difference. Hope this helps
