Paul,
I was up around Taree in January and went for a drive up to Ellenborough Falls, The road past there went up to Dingo Tops. There is a great are there with BBQ facilities. Plenty of area to camp, Did not see any signs about not
camping.
It is easy to get there. From Taree to Wingham and then follow Tourist Drive Signs to Ellenborough Falls. The Falls are among the largest in Southern Hemisphere with a 260 metre drop. A track has been built down to the bottom with over 600 steps almost straight down. My poor old knees reckon there was 1200 back up. Plenty of rest seats though. Then there is an walk to a viewing area level with the top of the falls.
After leaving the falls follow the Tourist Drive signs along a formed dirt track, past Blue Knob Lookout and then around to Dingo Tops. Any
camping shop, caravan park in the area will have maps.
It was a great drive which we did easily from Taree and back in a day.
Quite a few tracks up there to explore
Hope this is what you were looking for
