Cracks in Engine Bay Izuzu MuX

Is there anyone on the forum who has heard of an MuX or D-Max cracking bodywork in the engine bay. I know of one MuX that has cracked badly after 15k. Isuzu look like they are going to fix it under warranty but it is the first they claim to have seen and I certainly haven't heard of it before.

Not only car companies. In my last decade in the workforce we had several major IT changes and there always were teething troubles.

Whenever something went wrong you would summon a guru and his opening line on looking at the screen invariably was: "I've never seen that before."

Closely followed by: "What have you done to it?"

I read this thread just yesterday and no had never heard of it before .
Well today it just so happens , I go to my Ulysses motorcycle Saturday arvo get together.
The weather was not good here so I take my new Dmax , a member that I don't see often turns up , he has a panel shop and tells me he's just finished fixing a Dmax that had cracked the inner guards .
Isuzu knocked back a warranty claim , insurance picked up the bill.
Huge job doesn't want to do another , $8000.

I got him to show me where they crack , no cracks in mine , it's only done 9000k , I will keep a eye on it
I have broken a CV was not pleased about that , I broke very easily
But that a different story .

The standard answer is always denial claiming that they have never seen it before and blaming non-standard accessories (look at the Prado forum and Toyota's response). At least in my brother's case they have immediately accepted responsibility for the repairs. My concern is that, if not strengthened, it will only happen again. Interestingly, as with the Prado there doesn't seem to be a common factor. Some crack and some don't. Having had a 120 Prado, which was loaded with all the extras and did the Canning towing a camper, I had no problems at all with cracking. And yet some bog standard ones that have hardly been off road have suffered from the problem. I guess with the Izuzu only time will tell.

No he didnt say why warranty was denied , I will see if I can find out any more info , could be a couple of week or more before I see him again .

The heavier battery talked about on the Dmax forum is all speculation .

I noticed some of the members on the D Max forum were suggesting it could have been caused by someone installing a larger and heavier battery. If that is the case then it would be a very long way from being the first time that has happened. I have seen plenty of cases at work going back to the 1960s.

As for a dealer saying it is the first time they have seen it: that is also not uncommon.

The first time I heard it was when everyone in the workshop said it. We had a near new EH Holden towed in with a snapped con rod. I was an apprentice then and was given the job of fixing it. The following week I was back at TAFE for the day and two other apprentices said they have had cars do the same thing at the dealers they worked for.

All of the dealers would have reported them to GM but nothing was ever heard about it, there were no recalls and I never heard of another one doing it

Another was the Torana SLR 5000 that broke its timing chain during the pre delivery service as it was being driven out of the workshop. Nobody had seen anything like that before and we never heard of it happening again.

Then there was the new mid 1980s twin cam Corolla that dropped a valve into a cylinder. Two weeks later we had another one. Reports were sent immediately to Toyota. They were fixed under warranty, there were no recalls, and we never heard of any more.

We need to know a lot more about this particular cracking problem before any conclusions can be made.

Me too !!.Have been considering a new space cab ute....and the D-Max shifted to top of the list after I heard about the oil drain/change issue with the 5 cylinder Ford Ranger.
Now not so sure on either !!

Don't want a Hilux ...as apparently the clutch is a PITA.

Don't want a Triton ...as have seen more than one with a bent chassis.
So now its lookin like I might Keep my Trusty Datto ...and just put up with it for another decade or so.

hey jacko where abouts in the engine bay is the cracks ? mines now got about 115000k's and I guess if it was gunna show it whould of buy now givern where its been.

Hey..Sorry about that Gramps...but it looks like we are both in the same predicament.
In my case it all stems from the fact I do all my own servicing and maintenance..n don't really want any hassles...so the choices are diminishing here..which is why I would really like to know what is causing these cracks.
But its looking more like the devil I know hey...altho my Patrol is really no devil...even if it is already 18 years old.

We have 09/2012 D.Max with 80K have larger battery than standard, four inch lift and have done GRR and Gulf (Lorella Springs) and have not had this problem or any other.
I would like to see if these Isuzus where built around the same time.

This one is a 2014 model MuX, but I suspect the build date was 2013. It has dual batteries although the second one is up near the firewall, TJM bar and recently Tough Dog suspension lift. I think the damage occurred before the suspension was installed, although Izuzu does not consider that any of those modifications contributed to it.

What was the reason given? Isuzu don't pay up easily and we know of another we assume is identical being fixed by insurance not warranty.

Actually I correct my previous post. The MuX is a 2015 model not 2014. On the issue of warranty Izuzu has now rejected it after the state reps approved it. They claim that the suspension upgrade (which has only been in the past 6 weeks) has changed the geometry of the front end and put more stress on the body as a result. Also because the vehicle had got hung up by the bull bar on a low speed dry creek crossing, which I thought if anything, would have resulted in it cracking from the bottom and not the top. It seems like the same old story. If they can possibly blame something, even if there is no evidence that it was the cause, they will. I know that Izuzu isn't alone in this tactic, but the vehicle is marketed as a 4WD and one would expect it to be fit for purpose.
