We use stainless billies that nest and we picked up a handle that grips the top side. This acts like a pair of milti grips. The grip goes over the lip on the billy and you close the handles like pliers. These work well but not muck chop on aluminium as they tend to dent the lip. We picked the handle up from Boots camping.

Yep....its a snag.....we have a nesting set of pans that are 30 years old (still good) but haven't seen them anywhere new. Its a great concept for camping ....someone aught to make them !

Yep - handles are a pain. But be careful what you buy - the last trip I did down the CSR (for 3 weeks), we shared utensils, cooking gear, food etc., between the 3 Subarus, to save weight. The frypan was a backpacking type with a collapsable handle - and it did that very well ! I dropped 2 meals in the dirt as a result. If that frypan appears on our Calvert Ra trip in June, I will drive over it!

FYI - One of the best bits of gear I use, is a pressure cooker, it cooks veges quick, needs minimum water or heat - belonged to my parents - must be 50 years old.

Last year I bought a set of nesting stainless steel pans from Ranger camping (www.rangercamping.com.au), with an spouted stainless steel billy and a cast iron dutch oven this covers most things for me. The lids are all designed to double as frying pans, and the set included four stainless steel shallow bowls/deep plates, fairly small but functional. The handles are attached bit fold back for storage.

It took me a while to find them in the shop in Cannington (WA) because for some reason they had pots and billies in three or four diferent places, I never did work out why. I had actually decided that they didn't have what I wanted and was just browsing around looking at the 'toys' when I came across them. Obviously I haven't had them long enough to comment on how long they will last but other than that can highly recommend them.

Have you tried stores such as Paddy Palin, Kathmandu, SNowgum, Mountian Designs etc. I have a smallish cookware set that all fit inside each other for hiking. They are designed to work on MSR and Trangia type stoves so may be a bit small for what you are lookig for.

Pete I had the same problem a few years back.
Go to a st vinies or one of those charity stores and buy some second hand pots and see if they fit inside one another and remove handles then buy one of those triange pot liftters and bobs your auntie.All for a cost of about $15 the dearest part was the pot liftter.
