Travelling with a baby

Submitted: Sunday, Mar 04, 2001 at 00:00

Michelle

My baby will be 9mths old when we intend to re-visit the northern Kimberley in July. Im concerned about sandflies/heat/sun/feeding and other hardships. Does anyone have any first-hand tips of travelling in remote tropical regions with such a young child? ie. it is going to be hell? (Weve obviously explored the Kimberley previously and are very experienced campers/travellers) but not with a baby :-(

Travelling with your bub will definitely be tuffer on all concerned but you are sensible ppl and you will handle it just fine. Sunscreen and a suitable for infant insect lotions are available.
Keep your bub well hydrated and always well shaded, never left in the car unless motor running and A\C on. Prepare for such things as teething, temperatures, etc maybe a chat with your family doctor as to medicines to be carried on an extended trip. A full cover type suit will keep him warm in the A\C and protect from bites etc. needless to say a quality baby seat will add to his and your comfort. Prepare well as I know you will, relax and enjoy the trip and bonding with your bub.

See you up there, but we beat you. Well have a 2 1/2 year old and a 3 month old. Hope all goes well for us both. Just try to prepare things and then relax. It is meant to be fun after all. Some advise. If you havent already got one, buy a backpack to carry the child in, keeps you fit and children love them. Id recommend the MACPAC one from adventure stores like paddy palins. see you up north.
