I have a 2000 Lexus which has done a lot of serious off-road including Simpson and Central Oz. I now tow a 20' Bushtracker off-road van with it. The van, fully loaded, goes about 3.25 tonne. On a straight run with no head wind, about 27 l/100km is what you can expect. Throw in some hills and a head wind and that number can go out to 35 l/100km.
I maintained a detailed log last year on a 15,000km trip from
Victoria to the NT and Gulf etc. About 6,000 km was off road. Average consumption for the entire trip was 30 l/100km. Sounds a lot but in dollar terms, we paid about $1500 more for fuel than our fellow travellers with turbo diesels. But the power and comfort makes it worth while. The Lexus is a superb towing, driving and off-road vehicle.

Yeh Truckster if the on road cost of $140,000 is correct I figure the one owner lost approx $90,000 in 5 years 93 cents a klm, but I think that would slow down now at $50,000.
