I had 99 GXV which i upgraded to a Sahara this year and I'd say you would have to own an oil company to even consider towing anything behind your Lexus it's even heavier than the Toyota's so I would probably guess it would be closer to 25 - 28lts/100kls.

But on the other hand one of the nicest cars I've owned, thats why I bought another one.

Cheers

I have a 2000 Lexus which has done a lot of serious off-road including Simpson and Central Oz. I now tow a 20' Bushtracker off-road van with it. The van, fully loaded, goes about 3.25 tonne. On a straight run with no head wind, about 27 l/100km is what you can expect. Throw in some hills and a head wind and that number can go out to 35 l/100km.

I maintained a detailed log last year on a 15,000km trip from Victoria to the NT and Gulf etc. About 6,000 km was off road. Average consumption for the entire trip was 30 l/100km. Sounds a lot but in dollar terms, we paid about $1500 more for fuel than our fellow travellers with turbo diesels. But the power and comfort makes it worth while. The Lexus is a superb towing, driving and off-road vehicle.

Yeh Truckster if the on road cost of $140,000 is correct I figure the one owner lost approx $90,000 in 5 years 93 cents a klm, but I think that would slow down now at $50,000.

Snatchem,

Sounds like a good price for a great vehicle! I'd be doing the sums based on the incremental fuel cost when you are actually towing and weighing that against the quality of the vehicle before going to a 100 Series.

Don't underestimate the power you actually require to tow a 20' van. Towing anything that size takes power and uses fuel. The Lexus delivers the power in spades. It uses fuel but I'm not sure that it is disproportionate to the power you need.

You don't buy a Lexus looking for fuel economy , look elsewhere.

Most of the folks that buy these , fuel prices are the last thing they are concerned about.

You buy them because they are big , powerful , and a luxury 4wd , with all the gizmo's and about 17000 cup holders.

Flappan when you can afford them new maybe you don't worry about fuel costs I'm told this one cost $140,000 to put on the road in 99 (out of my price range). If I was just going to use it around town and some country I would have bought it there and then. But wife and I are planning the big trip within a year and thought I ask all the informed people that frequent this site for thier help before I raced into it and as always that help has come through. I didn't have time to count the cup holders there was to much else to like.

Snatchem,
I have a 2003 Discovery for bush trips. The Lexus was the family car. Having two 4WDs was a bit extravagant so I am looking to get sedan for a family car. If I don't sell the Lexus I won't be too upset because it is a great car and probably really worth about $80,000 when you look at what you get compared with other vehicles. It still feels like a new car, and you'd have to get an Executive level BMW to match equipment levels. The lease payout on the Lexus is $49,000, and the trade-in offers are 40,000 or less. As soon as they put it on the lot the sale price is $50,000 or more.

Hi Bob, I agree the Lexus is a great car a friend has a BMW 4wd and I think the Lexus could run rings around it.

I didn't end up buying this one, while I was looking at it the salesman received a phone call and told me if I didn't buy it now that a chap who looked at it the day before wanted it. I thought yeh right ( push push) so I left to think about it overnight and to ask people on this site "as above" but it turned out he was telling the truth.
But it was a couple of months to early for me anyway.
Good luck with your sale.
Cheers,
