If you are making your own swing away like me, and you have had enough of "manufacturers" telling you to go away, just go buy these latches and be happy.

Made by "de-sta-co" and distibuted here by Dawn clamps & vices. Sold online by Collins Industrial in SA.

Go to "catalog" then "tools hand" then "clamps & cramps" then "de sta co toggle clamps - pull clamps". This website don't like the direct links so you have to get there yourself.

The 324's and 334's look good to me

Some imperial data and drawings...

The Southco products are excellent. Available at Universal Engineers Supplies. 1 off or multiples, I have never had a problem.

Yeah saw a home made over centre latch on a swing away in Cairns on the weekend, looked rough but seemed to do the job.

Just make sure you have heaps of adjustment in it, it will be pretty hard to get the positioning mm perfect. Plus wear etc

That's great thanks DJ, taht is the one bit I hadn't worked out yet.

Out of interest what is everyone using as their "hinge", bearings etc. I have read of suggestions of using tralier stub axle and bearings ( Someone that has made stuff for his Jeep), any thoughts anyone ...

Cheers,

Chris

Yeah Trailer stubs are the go. Heaps of us Rangie guys cut the flange off a hub and weld the bearing housing straight onto or into the rear bar. I have cut part of the flange off mine and welded it to a plate which I bolt to my rear bar.

Here is not mine. Rob hasn't used a trailer stub but you get the idea Robs rangie

I don't really like the way that Rob latches his carriers in, there is nothing really pulling them forward. Though, he hasn't had a problem, the friction seems to be enough.
