Cross the Nullarbor along railway

Hi everyone,

How come I have never heard mention of anyone crossing the Nullarbor along the service tracks beside the railway line - I am assuming there is going to be a track there. On a much smaller scale, I have driven from Tom Price to Karratha along the service track on the iron ore line - it was great fun. Can this be done across the Nullarbor - has anyone done it? It would be very different to following the highway.

You are allowed to travel west from Tarcoola to meet Goog's Track
I think Kalgoorlie to ?Rawlinna is open but the rest is most definitely CLOSED with threat of severe fines

Its been done plenty of times but old spikes hard on tyre and at the moment you are not allowed on most of it, as it is Private Property of the railway owners, but the govt. are supposed to be making it a gazetted road so will be able to again hopefully.

Hi Phlip,
The track along the Indian Pacific line through the Nullarbor is much harder than the Tom Price to Karratha Track.
I went along it in 1996, bringing my new Oka from Perth to Victoria.
Meet a railway ganger at Rawlina who told me that the track from there on hadn't been graded in 17 years.
Ther's lots of sharp limestone floaders who really cut up tyres.

The reason you don't hear much about people travelling along there is as has already been said.
It's a private road and they don't issue permits for it.
